The WMSU Gender Association Inc. (GAI) hosted the SOGIESC Summit 2026 on September 1 at the WMSU College of Teacher Education (CTE) Social Hall, bringing together students and members of the university community to promote diversity, gender sensitivity, and social inclusivity.
Anchored on the theme, โRecognizing Ability, Celebrating Diversity โ Gender Beyond Labels, Potential Beyond Limits,โ the summit focused on gender equality, dignity, non-discrimination, safe spaces, online harassment, and gender identity and inclusion.
Asst. Prof. Nelibelle C. Ulama, GAD Training Specialist, discussed gender equality, dignity, and non-discrimination, highlighting the importance of gender sensitivity, while Asst. Prof. Ruby Lim, CHE-GAD Coordinator, discussed the Safe Spaces Act or Bawal Bastos Law, emphasizing individualsโ rights and the importance of seeking assistance when needed.
Crisjame C. Toribio, ILS Elementary-GAD Coordinator, tackled gender-based online harassment, including cyberstalking, threats, sexist remarks, and unauthorized sharing of photos.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mariam Z. Julkarnain, GRRC Director, discussed gender identity, intersexuality, and inclusion, broadening the conversation on SOGIESC.
The summit also featured team-building activities, an awarding ceremony, and a community dance that strengthened camaraderie among participants.
Through the SOGIESC Summit 2026, WMSU continues to foster a community where diversity is respected, identities are valued, and every individual is empowered to reach their full potential.
