In an impressive display of unity, more than 300 people of different faiths gathered to observe the breaking of the fast during the Grand Iftar held June 13, 2018 at the Dr. Juanito Bruno Gymnasium.
The Grand Iftar is an annual activity held in support of our Muslim brothers and sisters in their observance of the holy month of Ramadan. Believed to be the holiest month of the year within Islam, and the month in which the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, our Muslim brothers and sisters dedicate this month to prayer, Quran recitation, introspection, and fasting during the sunlight hours.
University President Dr. Milabel Enriquez Ho, although not physically present due to an equally important event with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in Malacañan Palace, sent her greetings through a phone call. The president called for togetherness and solidarity within the University.
The Grand Iftar was hosted by the Office of the President and Dean of Student Affairs was held two days before the celebration of the Eid al-Fitr. Present in the event were members of the WMSU family that include officials, faculty members, students, and administrative staff. Outsiders were also welcomed to join. (Liezel M. Parreño, WMSU-PAO)
