Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), Association of Creative and Performing Artists of Zamboanga, Inc., Collective Arts of Students and Thespians (CAST), Umak, in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) commenced the first ever Mindanao Theatre Conference. The event was held last September 16 at the Conference Room of the College of Science and Mathematics.
With the theme, “Tanghalan ng Mag-aaral”, the event was hosted by the WMSU-Office of Culture and the Arts (OCTA). Headed by OCTA Director, Dr. Roberto B. Torres, the university has been consistent in supporting the furtherance of the theater arts and cultural interests.
The conference seeks to serve as an initial venue to generate awareness among participating schools in this part of the country. The said conference will also determine issues and other matters pertaining to the status of theater groups. Moreover, it seeks to promote enhancement of this particular art and to arouse the cultural interests among schools in Mindanao.
Theater directors, advisers and performers from the different universities and colleges in Mindanao attended the gathering. (Ekeena O. Lim, PAO-WMSU)
