“ALITAPTAP: Spreading the Light of Love and Kindness through Dance”

Last December 14, 2025, Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) through its National Committee on Dance, conducted a meaningful community outreach activity for young learners titled “ALITAPTAP: Spreading the Light of Love and Kindness through Dance.”

The initiative aimed to inspire the youth by promoting cultural appreciation, creativity, and values formation through the art of dance. The delegation conducted folk dance workshops and interactive cultural sessions at Sta. Teresita Elementary School, Bahay Pag-asa, Kanlungan (a juvenile facility for children in conflict with the law), and Anak Bale Balayan.

On December 15, two major events highlighted the second day of the celebration. The first was the OneDancePH Leaders’ Summit: Weaving the Future of Philippine Dance, held at the Ballroom Hall of the Metropolitan Theater. The summit gathered dance leaders, cultural workers, and educators from across the country to engage in meaningful dialogue on strengthening collaboration, preserving heritage, and shaping the future of Philippine dance.

The two-day event culminated in a vibrant cultural concert featuring outstanding dance groups from across the country. Performers included the Benilde Experimental Dance of De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde; the CEU Folk Dance Troupe of Centro Escolar University; Halili-Cruz School of Dance; Sinda Philippines Performing Arts Guild; the UE Silangan Dance Troupe of the University of the East; and the UP Filipiniana Dance Group of the University of the Philippines.

Through this collaborative effort, WMSU and the NCCA strengthened cultural awareness, advanced artistic excellence, and deepened community engagement—demonstrating that dance is not only an art form but also a powerful medium for unity, healing, and nation-building.
