Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) hosted the inaugural quarterly meeting of the Subcommittee on Migration and Development on February 27, 2024, marking a significant milestone in addressing the intricate challenges of migration within the region, recognizing it as a paramount concern for human security.
Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, President of WMSU, extended a warm welcome to Mr. Jeff Ysulat Fuentes, Regional Director of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD)-IX, who also serves as the committee chair of the Subcommittee on Migration and Development (SMD), along with esteemed members of the committee. Dr. Ochotorena emphasized the university’s support and commitment in this activity, she also expressed her aspirations for facilitating improved opportunities for migrants through such collaborative endeavors. At the core of its mission, the SMD is dedicated to formulating comprehensive policies and strategies that effectively address the multifaceted challenges presented by migration while advocating for the preservation of the dignity, rights, and overall well-being of migrants globally.
