Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) has been ranked 181 among the Global Top 300 Innovative Universities by the World University Rankings for Innovation 2024 (WURI). The announcement was made on June 7, 2024, during the 4th Hanseatic League of Universities (HLU) Conference at Franklin University Switzerland.
Additionally, the university excelled in specific categories, securing 42nd place in the Top 100 Industrial Application Category and 61st place in the Top 100 Student Mobility and Openness Category. This marks the second consecutive year that WMSU has been recognized by WURI for its significant contributions to society, showcasing its commitment to pioneering approaches in research and educational programs.
Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, the University President, expressed her elation over this recognition. “This achievement underscores the importance of internationalization and reflects our commitment to promoting innovation and creativity in our academic and research endeavors. Being ranked among the world’s top innovative universities is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our faculty, students, and staff,” Dr. Ochotorena stated.
The WURI rankings assess universities based on their real-world contributions and imaginative approaches, highlighting the value of practical impact and social relevance over traditional metrics. It is one of three ranking systems for internationalization recognized by the Commission on Higher Education.
WMSU’s consistent performance in these rankings establishes it as a leading institution both in the Philippines and internationally, reinforcing its role in advancing the future of higher education through innovative and impactful practices.
