Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) partnered with USAID, YouthLed, The Asia Foundation, and Sibika Hub of Zamboanga Peninsula

Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) partnered with USAID, YouthLed, The Asia Foundation, and Sibika Hub of Zamboanga Peninsula to serve the community outside the academe, fulfilling its core mandate of extension.

WMSU Sibika Hub, comprising faculty from the Integrated Laboratory High School and led by Project Leader Ms. Betsy Pearl P. Parangan, conducted the first webinar on “Democracy Talks: Philippine Independence Day” on June 7, 2024, via Zoom and Facebook Live to celebrate the historic proclamation of independence in 1898 from Spanish colonial rule.

The webinar served participants from the Zamboanga Peninsula by transferring knowledge, particularly by reorienting the Filipino people to the historic event. This was encapsulated in the presentation delivered by the esteemed resource speaker from De La Salle University in Manila, Dr. Michael Charleston “Xiao” B. Chua. His lecture on “Kalayaan at Kasarinlan” provided valuable insights to instill in the participants a sense of nationalism, encouraging them to become better citizens.

Indeed, through this extension program led by WMSU Sibika Hub, WMSU fulfills its social corporate responsibility to serve the community.
