The SUC Fair 2024 officially kicked off with a grand opening ceremony today at the KCC Mall de Zamboanga, marked by inspiring speeches, vibrant performances, and a palpable sense of excitement and pride. The event, hosted by Western Mindanao State University, serves as a vibrant platform for State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) to showcase their unique products, research and groundbreaking innovations, and the diverse array of talents and skills possessed by their students and faculty.
The keynote address was delivered by Hon. Marquez Ocampo Go, Chairperson of the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education. His speech highlighted the dual celebration of CHED’s 30th anniversary and the 4th National Higher Education Day.
Hon. Go emphasized that the day is a celebration of the collective achievements of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and a showcase of the creative possibilities within higher education institutions (HEIs). He highlighted that the event serves as a joyous reminder and symbol of shared aspirations to continuously enhance access, quality, and competitiveness among HEIs amidst the 4th industrial revolution. The celebration is particularly poignant as it marks the 30th anniversary of CHED, providing an opportunity to reflect on the progress made in local higher education and consider how to continue advancing and fulfilling mandates in the future.
He remarked, ” Hand in hand, we must come together to explore how we can contribute to adapting to change and developing new ways of thinking, while remaining cognizant of our cultural heritage and merging innovation with our cultural sensibilities.”
The opening ceremony set the tone for the rest of the fair, which promises to be a dynamic and enriching experience for all attendees. The SUC Fair 2024 is expected to attract thousands of visitors, including educators, students, industry professionals, and the general public, all eager to explore the innovations and talents showcased by the participating SUCs.
The SUC Fair 2024 stands as a testament to the incredible potential and achievements of the country’s higher education institutions, and the opening ceremony has set a high standard for the exciting days ahead.
