The Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) and the Tzu Chi Foundation-Zamboanga signed a Memorandum of Agreement on July 26, 2024, to provide educational assistance to qualified students. The Tzu Chi Scholarship Grant aims to support fifteen (15) students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Social Work at WMSU, starting in the academic year 2024-2025.
WMSU University President, Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, expressed her elation over this new partnership, highlighting how it will significantly help students with their daily expenses. She emphasized that this collaboration will ease the financial burdens faced by students, allowing them to focus more on their studies and personal development. Dr. Ochotorena also conveyed her enthusiasm for future collaborative projects with the Tzu Chi Foundation, which she believes will further enhance the university’s educational environment.
Bro. Harvey R. Yap, Vice Officer in Charge of Tzu Chi Zamboanga, stressed that the scholarship program provides comprehensive financial assistance to deserving students. This includes monthly stipends, book and internet allowances, uniform allowances, and transportation allowances. Bro. Yap underscored the foundation’s commitment to supporting education as a means to uplift communities and promote social change.
The partnership between WMSU and the Tzu Chi Foundation reflects a shared vision of providing quality education and creating opportunities for students to excel and contribute positively to society.
