The DICT Region IX and BASULTA successfully conducted the third leg of the Campus Connect: DICT School Caravan on April 5, 2025, at the Juanito Bruno Gymnasium, Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), Zamboanga City.
The event gathered over 600 students from the College of Computing Studies and the College of Engineering, who actively participated in an engaging session that explored the intersection of technology, digital empowerment, and national development.
The program was formally opened with a welcome message delivered by Dr. Joel G. Fernando, Vice President for Research, Extension, and External Linkages (RESEL), on behalf of Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, University President. Dr. Fernando underscored the value of academic-government partnerships in preparing students for the evolving digital landscape.
An inspirational message was delivered by DICT Regional Director Cheryl C. Ortega, who emphasized the crucial role of students in nation-building through ICT.
The DICT team presented four key areas central to the countryโs digital transformation thrust:
1. The eGov Super App, a one-stop platform for accessing government services;
2. ICT Industry Development Programs, highlighting career and entrepreneurial pathways in tech;
3. ICT Literacy and Competency Programs, aimed at enhancing studentsโ digital skills; and
4. Cybersecurity Awareness, emphasizing the importance of staying secure in the digital space.
5. DICT CARES (Customer Assistance and Real-Time eGovernment Services) Help Desk
Students showed high levels of interest and enthusiasm, participating in a dynamic open forum where they posed relevant and forward-thinking questions to the speakers. Their curiosity and engagement reflect a growing awareness of the role of ICT in shaping future careers and communities.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Engr. Mark L. Flores, Dean of the College of Computing Studies, expressed appreciation for the meaningful collaboration and reiterated the universityโs commitment to digital learning and innovation.
Campus Connect is part of DICTโs broader mission to empower the youth and strengthen ICT awareness across academic institutions. With more legs of the caravan scheduled in the coming weeks, DICT continues to bring digital transformation to campuses across the region.
