Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) conducted a two-day training workshop on β€œUnderstanding the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking Methodology and UI GreenMetric World University Rankings” on August 7-8 at the College of Home Economics (CHE) Function Hall. The event aimed to strengthen WMSU’s commitment to global university ranking standards, environmental sustainability, and international recognition.

The workshop featured Dr. Mee Jay A. Domingo, Vice President for Planning and Strategic Foresight of Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), as the resource speaker. Dr. Domingo, a recognized expert in institutional planning and international benchmarking, guided participants through the intricacies of the THE Impact Rankingβ€”an assessment framework that measures universities’ performance in advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

On Day 1, Dr. Domingo provided an overview of the Times Higher Education Impact Ranking, explaining its indicators and data submission requirements. He emphasized how participation in the ranking system not only enhances institutional visibility but also drives sustainable and socially relevant programs.

The discussion also focused on localizing and institutionalizing the SDGs within the university’s academic, research, and extension functions. Dr. Domingo shared best practices from MMSU, which has successfully integrated SDG targets into its operations. He further highlighted WMSU’s strategic alignment with the THE Impact Ranking, encouraging the university to leverage its strengths in research, community engagement, and environmental stewardship.

Day 2 introduced participants to the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, which assess universities’ commitment to environmental sustainability based on infrastructure, energy, climate change, waste management, water usage, transportation, and education. Dr. Domingo underscored the value of pursuing multiple recognitions to holistically improve WMSU’s global standing and sustainability profile.

The event brought together university officials, faculty members, and administrative personnel who actively engaged in discussions and planning activities. WMSU President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena expressed her full support for the initiative, affirming that the workshop is aligned with the university’s vision of becoming a globally competitive institution rooted in sustainable development principles.

In closing, the participants signed a commitment board, symbolizing their collective pledge to advance WMSU’s global initiatives. Participants reaffirmed WMSU’s dedication to aligning its institutional roadmap with international standards, ensuring that its contributions to education, research, and community development create a meaningful impact both locally and globally.

This training workshop marks a significant step forward in WMSU’s journey toward sustainable development leadership and enhanced international competitiveness. (LMP, PAO)
