Western Mindanao State University celebrated Presidentโ€™s Day on September 2 at the Dr. Juanito A. Gymnasium, marking the 5th anniversary of Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena as the 6th President of the University. The event showcased the many firsts achieved under her leadership and paid tribute to WMSUโ€™s unsung heroes, the administrative services and security personnel whose dedication sustains the daily life of the institution.

A key moment of the celebration was the recognition of 39 performing personnel, a gesture that honored their commitment and highlighted the vital role they play in the Universityโ€™s success.

The program opened with welcome remarks from Dr. Nursia M. Barjose, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who emphasized that every success of the University is made possible through the clear vision, unwavering integrity, and a deep commitment to academic excellence and public service. This was followed by a video presentation prepared by the Public Affairs Office showcasing the many firsts accomplished under Dr. Ochotorenaโ€™s term, a reminder of the transformative leadership that has brought WMSU closer to its vision.

In her message, Dr. Ochotorena reflected on her journey as university president, sharing the challenges faced and victories gained. She expressed deep gratitude to the people who continue to serve as the backbone of the University. โ€œEvery achievement belongs not to me alone but to all of you who stood and worked with me,โ€ she said.

Messages of solidarity were also delivered by Dr. Adrian P. Semorlan, President of the WMSU Faculty Union and Member of the Board of Regents, and Ms. Darea Jonnah B. Siloterio, President of the Administrative Personnel Association. Both reaffirmed their support and commitment to the administration and its vision.

The program also featured sing and dance performances from personnel groups, with the Macho Sweepers emerging as dance champions, the Fantasy Dolls placing second, and the Admin Groovers receiving a special award.

In the singing competition, Mr. Joselito Valencia from Utility Services won first place, Mr. Eric Taroza from Carpentry Unit placed second, and Mr. Randel Temporada from Security Services finished third. Consolation prizes were also given to non-winners in recognition of their talent and participation.

The program concluded with a heartfelt message from Mr. Ariel Perez, General Foreman, who conveyed the gratitude of the administrative and security services personnel to the University leadership for recognizing their efforts and sacrifices.

Presidentโ€™s Day 2025 marked both the fifth year of Dr. Ochotorenaโ€™s leadership and the recognition of the invaluable contributions of the men and women who work quietly behind the scenes to keep WMSU safe, clean, and thriving. (LMP, PAO)
