The Department of Science and Technology IX (DOST IX), through its City Science and Technology Center, in collaboration with Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), conducts a community and barangay engagement in Barangay Taluksangay, Zamboanga City.
The team meets with barangay officials to discuss key issues on disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM), solid waste management, and climate change adaptation, which can be addressed through science and technology-based interventions.
The team also assessed the livelihood products of an Indigenous Peopleโs group, such as lokot-lokot, seaweed chips, and agar-agar nachos, for possible improvement in product development, equipment upgrading, and packaging enhancement.
Through this initiative, DOST IX reaffirms its commitment to empowering communities and promoting sustainable development through science, technology, and innovation.
