Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) officially launched its National Womenโ€™s Month Celebration on March 2 during the universityโ€™s flag raising ceremony held at the Dr. Juanito Bruno Gymnasium, gathering members of the academic community in a shared recognition of womenโ€™s leadership, achievements, and contributions to society.

The opening program was spearheaded by the Gender Research and Resource Center (GRRC) in partnership with the College of Public Administration and Development Studies (CPADS). The event marked the beginning of a series of activities aimed at promoting gender equality, women empowerment, and inclusive development within the university community.

A highlight of the program was an audio-video presentation prepared by CPADS, honoring the many accomplishments of University President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena as a distinguished woman and leader. The presentation underscored her dedication to strengthening the universityโ€™s programs and advancing initiatives that support inclusive leadership and institutional growth.

Following this, Dr. Ochotorena delivered her message to the university community, emphasizing the importance of recognizing the vital role of women in shaping institutions and communities. She called on members of the WMSU community to continue supporting programs and initiatives that advance gender equality and provide opportunities for women to lead, innovate, and contribute meaningfully to national development.

Another highlight of the ceremony was the Pledge of Commitment, led by Asst. Prof. Nellibelle C. Ulama of the GRRC. The pledge reaffirmed the commitment of the WMSU community to uphold gender equality, respect, and inclusivity within the university and beyond.

As the celebration continues throughout the month, the WMSU community is reminded that honoring women goes beyond recognition. It also involves sustaining initiatives that ensure equal opportunities, amplify womenโ€™s voices, and foster a culture where leadership and excellence thrive regardless of gender.

The 2026 National Womenโ€™s Month Celebration continues under the 2023โ€“2028 campaign theme, โ€œ๐–๐„ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐†๐ž๐ง๐๐ž๐ซ ๐„๐ช๐ฎ๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ˆ๐ง๐œ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐’๐จ๐œ๐ข๐ž๐ญ๐ฒ,โ€ which highlights shared responsibility, collective leadership, and inclusive participation.
