On March 18, 2026, the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Zamboanga City, during its regular session presided over by Honorable Vice Mayor Maria Isabelle G. Climaco, presented Resolution No. 3141 to Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena.

The resolution commends and extends congratulations to Dr. Ochotorena for being named First Runner-Up in the Internationalization Leadership category at the Internationalization Champions of Nation-Building and Sustainability (ICONS) Awards 2025.

In her response, Dr. Ochotorena expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod and to the resolution’s sponsor, Honorable Carol Julianne F. Dalipe, for the commendation and their unwavering support for WMSU.

“This recognition is not just a personal honor. It reflects the dedication of our entire WMSU family and inspires us to continue striving for excellence, advancing our mission, and contributing meaningfully to nation-building and global engagement,” she shared.

The ICONS Awards 2025 was held on December 10, 2025, at the Philippine International Convention Center and was organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). This prestigious recognition honors leaders who shape the future of Philippine higher education through transformative vision, ethical and strategic governance, and a commitment to creating lasting and meaningful impact.
