Grand Iftar celebration on March 16, 2026

In observance of the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Western Mindanao State Universityโ€“Muslim Student Association (WMSU-MSA) held a Grand Iftar celebration on March 16, 2026, bringing together faculty members, students, and administrative personnel to break the fast as one community.

Representing WMSU President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Berhana I. Flores delivered an inspiring message to the participants. In her speech, Dr. Flores emphasized that the Grand Iftar goes beyond the sharing of a meal, describing it as a meaningful reminder of how faith can unite people. โ€œAt a time when many parts of the world face division and conflict, the Grand Iftar becomes a powerful symbol of peace,โ€ she said.

Assoc. Prof. Abdel-Azeem A. Moh. Siddique, OIC Dean of the College of Asian and Islamic Studies, welcomed the participants and expressed hope that the gathering would strengthen unity and promote camaraderie within the university community.

Meanwhile, guest speaker Shk. Mohammad Tawfig Kiram delivered a reflection titled โ€œRamadanโ€™s Departure: Did It Reform Our Souls?โ€ encouraging participants to reflect on the spiritual lessons and personal growth gained during the holy month.

In his closing message, Dr. Al- Ghani D. Mohammad, University and Board Secretary, MSA Consultant, reminded the Muslim community to continue reflecting on the values of Ramadan beyond the fasting period. He also expressed gratitude to WMSU President Dr. Ochotorena, as well as to the sponsors and partners who made the event possible.
