Western Mindanao State University continues to prove that innovation, excellence, and service can thrive beyond borders as it achieved another remarkable milestone in the 2026 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI). Rising from 156th place last year to 115th in the Global Top 500 this 2026, WMSU recorded an impressive 41-place leap, an achievement that reflects the university’s relentless pursuit of transformative and globally competitive education.

This latest recognition also cements WMSU’s standing as the leading university in Region IX and the 26th ranked institution in the Philippines in the prestigious WURI rankings, further strengthening its reputation as one of the country’s emerging centers of innovation and research-driven development.

More than numbers and rankings, WMSU’s performance showcases a university deeply committed to creating real-world impact through education, technology, research, and community engagement. Its strong showing across several WURI categories demonstrates the breadth of its growing innovation ecosystem.

Among its most notable achievements is its exceptional performance in Industrial Application (A3), where WMSU ranked 7th globally, placing it among the world’s Top 10 universities in the category and making it the highest-ranked state university in the Philippines in Industrial Application. This recognition highlights the university’s capacity to translate research, innovation, and academic expertise into practical and industry-relevant solutions that contribute to national and regional development.

Equally historic is WMSU’s 9th place global ranking in Social Impact through Knowledge Transfer (C5), positioning the university among the world’s leading institutions in extending knowledge and innovation to communities. It also earned recognition as one of the Top 6 universities in the Philippines in the category, emphasizing WMSU’s commitment to ensuring that education serves not only classrooms and laboratories, but also communities and society at large.

For the first time in its history, WMSU secured two Top 10 global rankings in WURI categories, an extraordinary milestone that symbolizes the university’s expanding influence in both industrial innovation and community-centered development.

The university also posted strong performances in Student Support and Engagement, Crisis Management, Infrastructure and Technology, Interdisciplinary Research, AI-Based Teaching and Learning Transformation, Ethics and Integrity, and Financial Impact-Driven Technology Transfer, demonstrating a holistic and forward-thinking approach to higher education.
