WMSU Marks Sixth Year of Dr. Ochotorenaโ€™s Presidency

Western Mindanao State University celebrated University Presidentโ€™s Day on September 2, 2026, marking six years of leadership under University President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena.

The event opened with a Thanksgiving Mass at the Dr. J. Bruno Gymnasium, followed by a program highlighting the Presidentโ€™s accomplishments and the Universityโ€™s journey under her leadership.

In her Presidentโ€™s Day message, Dr. Ochotorena reflected on the challenges, sacrifices, and triumphs that have shaped her tenure, including the โ€œsleepless nightsโ€ and โ€œmoments of doubtโ€ that came with the weight of leadership, while reaffirming her determination to carry the Universityโ€™s mission forward.

โ€œI have fought a good fight,โ€ she said, expressing her resolve to see the journey through.

Dr. Ochotorena also addressed perceptions of her firm leadership and high standards, explaining that her expectations are rooted in her belief in the University and its people.

โ€œI demand excellence because I know WMSU is capable of excellence,โ€ she said.

At the same time, she emphasized that the Universityโ€™s accomplishments are shared achievements, made possible by the collective efforts of the WMSU community working together in pursuit of excellence and institutional growth.

Dr. Ochotorena closed her message with a renewed commitment to WMSU, pledging to continue serving the University โ€œwith excellence, sincerity, courage, and love.โ€

The activities continued in the afternoon with the WMSU Presidentโ€™s Cup 2026 โ€“ APA Pickleball Tournament at the WMSU Covered Court, bringing together members of the WMSU community for an afternoon of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

Beyond marking a milestone, University Presidentโ€™s Day provided an opportunity to reflect on the challenges overcome, the accomplishments achieved, and the work that lies ahead, while reaffirming a shared commitment to moving WMSU forward.
