Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) University Librarian Dr. Benhur A. Asid was named a recipient of the 2026 Outstanding Professional of the Year Award (OPYA) in Librarianship, conferred by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) on September 4 at The Manila Hotel in Ermita, Manila.
The recognition is among the highest honors bestowed upon Filipino professionals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence, leadership, and service in their respective fields.
Dr. Asid also made history as the first librarian from Zamboanga City to receive the prestigious award in the field of librarianship.
As WMSU University Librarian, Dr. Asid has contributed to modernizing and strengthening the University’s library services through innovative initiatives, including the Online Library Cart (now ULib InfoBridge), โEl Brillioโ Open Educational Resources, and the Digital Resource Access Point (DRAP), which promote greater access to digital learning and information resources.
The recognition brings pride to the WMSU community and highlights Dr. Asid’s significant contributions to the University and the advancement of the librarianship profession. (LMP, PAO)
