SENATE President many Villar has allotted funds for 675 student loan program slots and another 105 full scholarship slots to college students of Western Mindanao State University.
In a recent letter to WMSU President Dr. Grace J. Rebollos, Senator Villar said financially-constrained students enrolled in the second to fifth years in any department of WMSU can avail of from P4,000 to P6,000 loan per school year starting the current period.
“Preferrably,” Sen. Villar said, “the loans shall be extended to those students who were previously enrolled in the preceding year but were not able to enroll in the current school year due to lack of funds, as well as to those presently enrolled students having financial difficulties in paying their tuition and other school fees.”
The loans are interest-free and the student-borrower shall pay back the loan in two to five years from graduation. The amortization, Sen. Villar said, maybe used by WMSU as a revolving fund.
Deadline for submission of loan applicants’ names to his office is June 27.
On the other hand, first year students enrolled in agriculture, fisheries, forestry, mathematics, science, English teacher education, maritime and engineering courses may avail of a scholarship worth P60,000 covering his or her four-year matriculations. A total of 105 slots have been allocated by Sen. Villar to WMSU.
The funds will be administered by WMSU, in coordination with City Councilor Roel Natividad.
The Office of City Mayor Celso Lobregat has also informed WMSU, through the regional office of the Commission on Higher Education, that the Al-Azhar University and Al-Azhar Islamic Institute in Egypt are jointly offering 75 scholarship slots to young Muslim Filipinos desirous to study in their schools.
Egyptian official will interview applicants in the Egyptian embassy in Makati City on June 23-27, the announcement said.
