CA, CFES Hold Research Forum




Western Mindanao State University's College of Agriculture and College of Forestry and Environmental Studies pursued their second research forum. The said event was held at the San Ramon campus last March 7 and was participated by the faculty and students.

The forum served as an opportunity for the colleges' own faculty and students to present their completed research and to be open for questions and suggestions through an open discussion. The joint research presentations of the two colleges are part of the Research Utilization Publication and Information Dissemination of the Research, Extension and Development office.

"Botanical Insecticides Efficacy on Sweet Corn (Zea Mays L.) Production" by Ms. Evelyn P. Salungkag was about the author's development of an organic insecticide used in eradication of certain corn pests. The second presenter was Mr. Roberto E. Quibilan with "Adequacy and Efficiency of the Implementation of the Clean Air Act in Relation to the Anti-Smoke Belching in Zamboanga City." Quibilan's research involves measuring the effectivity of the Anti-Smoke Belching ordinance and the awareness among the motorists in Zamboanga City towards it. Third to present was Dr. Paterna J. Saavedra with "Coco Sap Sugar as Feed Supplement to Broiler Chicken." Her research showed an increase in the fowl's weight and appetite when the said sugar was added in the feed. Fourth among the presenters was Mr. John Timtim with "Carica Papaya Leaf Extract Solution at Various Concentrations against Macrotermes Gilvus." The research was on the utilization of the cost-effective papaya leaf extract to kill termites. And the last research presentation was "Botanical Pesticides Against Bush Sitao Borer" by Mr. Ramil G. Valente.

The event was graced by Vice President for Research, Extension and Development, Dr. Milabel E. Ho, Dr. Julieta B. Tendero-Research Utilization Publication Information Dissemination (RUPID) Director, Dr. Lea U. Laput-Public Affairs Office Director and Ruzzel L. Nazario-Technical Associate of RUPID Center.
