It is a testament to the commitment to academic excellence and student welfare in pursuance of the Vision and Mission of Western Mindanao State University. Starting with the Bachelor of Elementary Education and Bachelor of Secondary Education programs, the various external campuses submitted their application for COPC. A journey that commenced with a blend of excitement and apprehension among the workforce behind the documentary preparation.
Facing resistance and skepticism, they navigated through challenges with perseverance and leadership. Doubts evolved into a triumph of resilience and collaboration, through the transformative power of determination. Thence, followed the rest of the programs – the Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Batsilyer ng Sining sa Filipino, Bachelor of Science in Social Work, Bachelor of Science in Criminology, Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, and the most recently and completing the list, the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and the Associate in Computer Technology, totaling to 41 programs sprawled across the 13 External Campuses.
With support from key individuals and institutions, the ESU faculty and staff transformed the seemingly impossible into reality, strengthening their commitment to educational excellence and accessibility for the marginalized, underprivileged, and underserved populace of Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga del Sur.
Noteworthy to mention for their contribution to this milestone are the following: the Commission on Higher Education – Regional Office IX headed by its Director III In-charge, Dr. Rody P. Garcia; the University President, Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, whose careful attention to the ESU and mobilization of resources made the challenges surmountable; Dr. Shamir R. Kassim, Executive Assistant for Special Academic Concerns and concurrent University Curriculum Chairperson, for his persistence and perseverance in directing preparations, compliances, and coordination between WMSU and CHED-ROIX; the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, under Dr. Nursia M. Barjose, through the Office of the Quality Assurance, with its Director, Dr. Sarah S. Taupan; and the Deans of the various mother colleges and heads of the programs – College of Teacher Education, College of Liberal Arts, College of Criminal Justice Education, College of Agriculture, and College of Computing Studies.
With grateful hearts, the External Studies Unit family is proud to declare, that 100% of the program offerings are with COPC!
