Associate Professor Ludivina B. Dekit, Director of the Peace and Human Security Institute at Western Mindanao State University, served as a speaker at the 9th International Conference on Global Citizenship Education in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from September 4 to 5, 2024.
The event, organized by the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, brought together global leaders, educators, and policymakers to discuss how education can contribute to a more peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable world.
In her speech, Asso.Prof. Dekit highlighted the themes of transformation, peace education, conflict resolution, and community support. She shared her personal journey of healing, resilience, and dedication to promoting peace through education. Drawing on her experiences in conflict-affected regions of the Philippines, she emphasized the crucial role of education in fostering understanding, tolerance, and global citizenship.
APCEIU, a UNESCO center, promotes education for international understanding (IEU) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED) across the Asia-Pacific and beyond. Their core initiatives include capacity-building for teacher educators and stakeholders, research and curriculum development, and fostering networks and information sharing.
