Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) made significant strides in research and innovation with two major events held on September 23, 2025: the inauguration of the Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMCen) satellite office at its main campus, and the signing of Technology Licensing Agreements (TLAs) with the Department of Science and TechnologyโIndustrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI).
The inauguration of the AMCen satellite office marked a historic milestone as it became the first and only AMCen hub in Western Mindanao. The facility is envisioned to serve as a center for research, advanced skills development, and industry collaboration in the region.
The ceremony was attended by DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr., WMSU officials, and DOST representatives. Vice President for Student Affairs and Services Dr. Fredelino M. San Juan, representing WMSU President Dr. Ma. Carla A. Ochotorena, underscored the universityโs commitment to fostering an environment where research, science, and technology drive progress in line with global manufacturing trends.
Following the inauguration, WMSUโResearch Innovation Center for Metals and Engineering (RICME) formalized its partnership with DOST-ITDI through the signing of Technology Licensing Agreements at Palacio Del Sur, Marcian Hotel.
Dr. San Juan, together with DOST-ITDI Chief Engr. Reynaldo L. Esguerra and DOST-IX Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operations Services Ricardo J. Apolinario, III, led the signing of agreements covering the ITDI Dual Drum Composter, ITDI Portable Biogas Digester, and ITDI Household Tumbling Composter.
Engr. Esguerra highlighted the rationale of technology transfer, stressing the urgent need for practical, science-based solutions to support communities, especially in times of crisis. Through these TLAs, WMSU aims to further strengthen its research and extension services, generating and disseminating technologies that promote sustainability and resilience.
These events reaffirm WMSUโs dedication to advancing science, technology, and innovation not only for academic growth but also for the service of communities and industries in Western Mindanao and beyond.
