The Western Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (WESMAARRDEC), hosted by Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), took center stage at the Davao Agri Trade Expo (DATE) 2025 held from September 18 to 20, 2025, at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City. The consortium proudly showcased innovations that highlight Western Mindanaoโs agricultural strength and commitment to community development.
WESMAARRDEC joined the expo led by the Department of Science and Technology- Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD). Alongside other regional consortia including CCAARRD, NOMCAARRD, SMAARRDEC, and SOXAARRDEC, WESMAARRDEC presented a wide range of technologies designed to address grassroots challenges and improve the quality of life of farmers and fisherfolk.
A highlight of its participation was the technology pitching session which featured two breakthrough technologies. Dr. Leonilo B. Abella of WMSU introduced the ZamPen Native Chicken, a technology aimed at strengthening the poultry industry and providing sustainable livelihood opportunities. Reca Bautista of Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) pitched the SafiTek Coco Dehusker, an innovative tool designed to improve efficiency and productivity in coconut farming.
For WESMAARRDEC, DATE 2025 is another milestone in its mission to drive agricultural innovation, empower communities, and foster collaboration across regions. As the host institution, WMSU continues to strengthen its role in advancing initiatives that connect research, technology, and grassroots development to create real opportunities for the people of Western Mindanao.
